Contact us with details of the shop and the fur they sell.
Make a complaint to the shop / company manager.
Contact the company, and tell them you won't buy from them again until they stop selling fur and you will encourage others to do the same.

There is a lot of fake fur that looks very real so please try and determine whether it is fake or real - check the label and ask the shop assistants. The shop assistants may not know - many shops simply buy designs that they like and don't know whether the fur trim is real, other shops are sent supplies from their head office so have less control over what they sell.

As the fur trade struggles to find new markets they are using more real fur as trim on all sorts of items and fur is now being aimed at a younger age group. Also, real fur is often shaved or dyed so may not look real. If you aren't 100% sure that a garment is made with synthetic materials don't buy it! Fur may also be used on items other than clothes. It is used on novelty gifts such as ornamental animals, toys for pets, etc.

There are a few simple steps that consumers may take to distinguish between fake and real fur, according to World Animal Net.

TEST FOR REAL OR FAKE FUR			REAL	FAKE
1.	FEEL:	Feel the difference by rolling the hairs between finger and thumb...	Feels smooth and soft, easily rolls between the finger.	Feels coarse.
2.	LOOK:	collars of longhaired fur - blow on the hairs so they divide...	Often made up of several layers of thin, almost curly hairs which form a dense under-wool, through which the longer hairs stick out. The base is leather.	Simpler in structure, individual hairs are often the same length and even in colour.
3.	PINCH WITH A PIN:	through the base...	The leather resists, pin is hard to push through.	Pin easily goes through the base.
4.	BURN TEST:	(pull, very carefully) a few hairs from the fur and hold them to a flame...	Singes like a human hair and smells similar.	Melts like plastic and smells like burnt plastic. Forms small plastics balls at the ends that feel hard between finger and thumb.

모피로 이용되고되고 있는 동물은 100여종 이상이 됩니다. 현재 모피동물의 사육이 늘어가나, 여전히 덫으로 야생의 동물을 잡는 것이 행해지고 있습니다. 모피의 가공형태가가 대부분은 수작업으로 이루어지기 때문에 인조모피보다 많게는 20배이상 비용이 더 들어가고 있습니다.

1. 밍크

   야생보다 사육되는 밍크의 털이 훨씬 우수하다고 합니다.  야생에서는 물과 육지를 오가며 운동량이 많아 털이 거칠어지나, 사육에서는 목욕은 물론, 운동량이 없게 하여 새끼때부터 털을 관리하고 있습니다.

   약80년전부터 캐나다에서 사육을 시작했으며, 그후 미국과 북유럽, 일본에서 본격적인 사육을 했습니다. 국내에서는 기후여건상 사육이 어려워 원모피를 캐나다, 미국등지에서 대부분 수입하여 가공합니다.  현재 유전학적 개량을 통해 여러잡종을 만들어내 오늘날 20여종의 다양한 색의 밍크를 사육하고 있습니다.

2. 여우

   원래는 야생이지만 은여우의 수요가 증가되어 많이 사육하게 되었습니다.  털빛깔에 따라 은여우, 백여우, 회색여우로 나뉘며 질기고 가격도 밍크보다 저렴해 코트와 의류에 부착하는 소품류에 많이 사용이 됩니다.

3. 토끼

   집토끼와 산토끼가 있고 그중에서 집토끼가 모피용으로 사용됩니다.  초식동물로 털이 잘 부러지고 가죽이 약하나 가격이 싸서 소품류나 악세사리등 다양한 곳에 이용되고 있습니다.

4. 담비

   검은담비는 세이블이라하여 가장고가로 거래되고 있고 흰담비는 희귀동물로 아민이라 불립니다. 그리고 피셔라고 불리는 노랑담비는 우리나라 일본등지에서 서식하는 담비입니다.

5. 머스크랫(사향쥐)

   육지에 사는 쥐의 일종으로 꼬리밑부분에서 사향을 분비한다고 해서 사향쥐라고 합니다. 북아메리카가 원산지이며 모피로서는 고급소재에 속합니다.

6. 친칠라

   현재 외국에서는 애완용으로도 사랑받고 있는 친칠라는 남아메리카의 페루나 볼리비아산이 있으나 현재는 여러나라에서 모피용으로 사육되고 있습니다. 우리나라에서는 최상급으로 인식되고 있는 모피중의 한종류입니다.

7. 족제비

   야생으로서가 가장많습니다.  털의 원색은 담황색이나  붉은 기운이 도는 다갈색이나 흑갈색으로 염색을 하면 밍크와 비슷한 광택과 빛깔이 나서 밍크의 대용품으로 쓰입니다.

8. 너구리

   야생의 것으로 대부분은 염색한 것이 시판이 됩니다. 털이 길고 푹신한것이 특징입니다.

9. 다람쥐

   야생으로서 북방지역의 것은 은쥐색, 남방쪽으로 갈수록 갈색이며 털의 질이 떨어진다고 합니다.  러시아에서 가장 맣이 나며 털이짧고 촘촘해 솔등에 사용됩니다.

10. 면양

    종류가 많습니다. 사육한 양모피는 무거워 대부분 깔개, 슬리퍼등에 이용이 됩니다.  가공방법에 따라 의류에 사용이 되기도 합니다.  생후 6개월에서 1년정도 된 양의 털가죽으로 털을 쉬어드해 털면을 안쪽으로 가죽면을 바깥으로 가공하여 만든것이 무스탕입니다.  분만직전의 어미양의 배안에 있는, 태어나기전의 양의 가죽과 털로서 최고급 카라클양털과 가죽이 새롭게 떠오르고 있습니다.
